Indian Army Chief General, Manoj Mukund Naravane on June 24 awarded the commendation cards to the soldiers who fought with the Chinese troops in face-offs that took place in the Eastern Ladakh sector.
The Indian Army Chief visited the forward locations in the Eastern Ladakh area on his two- day visit to Ladakh to review the on-ground situation. The chief had also interacted with the troops on the ground.
The Commendation cards are issued by all the three branches of the military. They are badges that are awarded for individual acts of gallantry performed in non-operational or operational areas.
Army Chief’s visit to Leh:
The Indian Army Chief on June 23 had departed for Leh in order to review the on-ground situation and the progress in talks with the Chinese Military. The chief had also interacted with Ladakh MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal amid his two-day visit to the region. The Leh Corps Commander and Northern Army Commander were also present during the interaction.
General Manoj Mukund Naravane had also visited an Army hospital and interacted with Gallant Indian Army soldiers who were injured in the clash that took place in Galwan Valley on June 15. The injured soldiers have been undergoing treatment at the Army hospital.
As per the officials, the Army Chief on June 22 had discussed the security situation with the top army commanders in Delhi.
Defusing border situation between India and China:
India and China have been holding military-level talks in order to defuse the border tensions after the violent face-off in Galwan Valley in Ladakh. In the face-off, 20 Indian soldiers lost their lives.
The Army sources had earlier informed that Indian and Chinese troops have been involved in violent face-offs in Galwan river valley army, Pangong Tso Lake, and Finger area.
As per the Indian intercepts, the Chinese side had suffered 43 casualties including seriously injured and dead.
