Rajasthan Government launches Indira Rasoi Yojna

Rajasthan Government has launched the ‘Indira Rasoi Yojna’ in order to pay special tribute to the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 76th birth anniversary on August 20.

As the name suggests, Indira Rasoi is a scheme to provide nutritious food to poor people in urban areas at affordable prices.


About Indira Rasoi Scheme


  • Under the scheme, the state government will provide nutritious food to the people at Rs 8 per meal. Each plate will be actually priced at Rs 20 but the government will pay a subsidy of Rs 12 per meal.

  • The expected expenditure on the scheme is Rs 100 crore per year.

  • A typical thali will contain 100 grams of vegetables, 100 grams of pulses, 250 grams of chapati, and pickles.

  • The food will be provided by 358 kitchens or Rasois that have been set up in 213 urban local bodies across the state.

  • The government also aims to make people eat their food with dignity by eating it in the canteen; arrangements will be done for the same. The starting target of the government is to feed 4.87 crore people in a year.

  • A special app has also been launched to check the quality of food being provided to the people.

The scheme was launched by the Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot through video conferencing. On the day of the inauguration, 10 Indira Rasois served food to people in Jaipur Municipal area.
