Microsoft is joining hands with the SpaceX that is led by the billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk. This is being done to target the space customers.

 

Highlights

  • Partnership with SpaceX Starlink will provide high-speed and low latency satellite broadband for Microsoft’s Azure Modular Datacenter.
  • With this partnership, the Microsoft aims to make the Azure a platform and ecosystem of choice. Microsoft wants the platform to be looked upon for the mission needs of the space community.

 

About the Project

 

Fir the project, Microsoft has brought together a team of space industry veterans in order to work alongside its product engineers and scientists. They will be building the cloud capabilities that will suit the needs of space exploration. Their innovation areas include space missions, to discover insights from satellite data and to fuel innovation both on the ground as well as in orbit. After the spcae missions coupled with the Azure’s high-performance computing, machine learning and data analytics abilities the satellites will then open new opportunities for both public and private sector organisations.

 

Significance of SpaceX

 

SpaceX is known for its reusable rockets and astronaut capsules. SpaceX is doing up the satellite production for Starlink. SpaceX recently won a $149 million contract to build missile-tracking satellites for the Pentagon. It is the first government contract for SpaceX to build satellites.
