ONE NATION - ONE RATION CARD SCHEME

Implemented on Pilot Basis

Centre's policy to render national food security in the country "One Nation One Ration Card" has been implemented on a pilot basis in 4 states - Gujarat, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra.
The pilot project is effective from 1 August 2019.

OBJECTIVE -
The scheme seeks to allow the portability of Food Security Benefits. 
Families who have ration cards can by subsidized rice, wheat and other food grains from any ration shops of these states at a fair price. The ration card will need to be linked with the Aadhar number to avail the benefits of the scheme.

ONE NATION ONE AADHAR CARD SCHEME PILOT PROJECT 

IMPLEMENTATION IN TELANGANA AND ANDHRA PRADESH  - White ration cardholders have been getting portability facility which enables them to buy subsidized food grains from any fair price shop in the state.
Now under ONE NATION ONE RATION CARD scheme, the same facility can be availed in these two states through Point of State machines(POS).
In the trial-run, consumers from Andhra Pradesh bought their commodities from the fair price shop in Hyderabad.

SIGNIFICANCE

More than 56 lakh beneficiaries covered under the National Food Security Act in Telangana are expected to benefit from the facility. 
Similarly consumers in Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat are also identified for the implementation of the project.

VISION 

The union government plans to extend the scheme to all states by August 2020 to enable the portability of the Food Security card.
