FAQs for Prelims 2020

The cutoff for the UPSC Prelims 2020 is expected to remain the same as Previous year paper, somewhere between 95-105 marks.

The cut off for the UPSC IAS Prelims 2020 examination was 98 for general category, 90 for EWS, 95.34 for OBC, 82 for SC candidates.

Candidates can calculate the marks by analyzing the answer key. Here is the formula to calculate the marks obtained:
Marks obtained = Total no. of correct answers * 2 – No. of Incorrect answers * 0.66 Note- there are total of 100 questions consisting of 200 marks. The negative marking for each wrong answer is 0.66.

Paper II (CSAT) carries 200 marks for 80 questions. Each question carries 2.5 marks and 0.825 mark for each wrong answer.
Total obtained marks = No. of current answers * 2.5 – No. of incorrect answers * 0.825

The difficulty level of the UPSC examination can be analyzed by checking the answers from the tentative answer key provided by several institutions or by the official answer released by the UPSC. It helps us to know the average marks obtained by maximum no. of students which is responsible for the cut-off.

The answer will be released by the Union Public Service Commission after declaring all the results of three stages viz. UPSC Prelims, Mains and Interview.

The prelims paper of 2020 is moderate to tough for most of the students. Although many questions are from conventional areas yet, some are very logical and current issues related.
