The birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev ji, the founder of Sikhism and the first Guru of Sikhs, is celebrated every year on Kartik Purnima as Guru Nanak Jayanti or Guru Parva or Prakashotsav or Prakash Parv. It is one of the most sacred festivals in Sikhism and is celebrated all over the world. This year Prakash Parv will take place on 12 November and will mark the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev ji.


As part of celebrations of 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, India and Pakistan inaugurated Kartarpur Corridor for Shri Darbar Sahib on 9 November 2019. Thereby Indian Sikh devotees will for the first time pay obeisance at the feet of Guru Nanak Dev Ji in Kartarpur Sahib, Pakistan through the corridor.

Guru Nanak Dev had a special attachment with Kartarpur. Thus the gurudwara built here is known as Shri Darbar Sahib Kartarpur or Kartarpur Sahib has a great importance in Sikhism. . Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara is built at the place where he died.

It falls in Narowal district of Pakistan’s Punjab province. Guru Nanak Dev lived in Kartarpur for last 18 years of his life and finally died here. He built Kartarpur on the banks of river Ravi. It is the second holiest site in Sikhism after the birth place of Guru Nanak Dev in Talwandi in Pakistan, now known as Nankana Sahib, which is the first sacred site for Sikhs.
